Tribes 2 Box

On April 13, 2001 Tribes 2 was released in Australia and at the time many people saw it as a potential gap filler until Team Fortress 2 was finished. It was primarily populated with Tribes 1 vets who often complained how it wasn't Tribes 1 but for those who didn't it was incredible. It had jetpacks, it had skiing, it had armour classes and vehicles that more than one person could sit in. There wasn't anything like it at the time, nor has there been since.

It tormented players with constant UE errors and if you wanted more than 10 fps at 800x600 you had to upgrade your trusty GeForce 2 32Mb video card that ran Quake 3 so well. The errors, system requirements and steep learning curve caused many to walk away. But for those thay stayed, it was epic.

Rumours of an Australian/New Zealand Tribes 2 forum began to spread. At snaggs.com you could flame at the people you saw ingame. Personas emerged and feuds often began. There were people in the forums that when you killed them ingame it almost felt like bonus points. It added to the game. After a while some members who were frustrated at how snaggs.com was going setup a new forum and invited everyone to migrate. In June 2002 bittah.com launched and has been there ever since ... mostly.

To mark the ten year anniversary of Tribes 2 in Australia/New Zealand we're organising a LAN/Function in Syndey on April 16th 2011. Probably the last. The event is still being planned and on this site you'll be able to register your attendance have your say in how its run.
